At this point, the Gorillaz have convinced me that they’re real and I know they’re not.

Two of the members, 2D and Murdoc, appeared “live” on a set with BBC Radio 1’s Mistajam for an interview, while a third — Russel Hobbs — called in briefly (the lone woman of the group, Noodle, was nowhere to be found). The sit-down (which starts at the 11:30 mark of the video below) was, in short, a trip.

2D and Murdoc traded quips (“I was kidnapped by Murdoc,” 2D says on how the group was formed), and fielded questions from YouTube commenters who watched the interview unfold in front of their eyes. They spoke on how they rounded up the guests for their album Humanz (“a lot of them were taken against their will”), Murdoc’s infatuation with Grace Jones, and much more. The whole thing was wacky, with Russel even getting “frustrated” and hanging up on them mid-interview, and Murdoc spazzing out whenever he hears the words “Donald Trump.”

The Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett-created group will hit the road for their Humanz Tour, and it has been reported that they will perform with some of the guests on the album throughout: Danny Brown, De La Soul, D.R.A.M., Grace Jones, Kelela, Vince Staples, Popcaan and Pusha T have all been confirmed.
