Calvin Harris – “Rollin” f. Future & Khalid

blame it on Patrick Glynn May 11, 2017

If you told me when I started at 2DopeBoyz two years ago that I’d be writing about how hyped I was for a Calvin Harris album, I probably would’ve quit and let you take over. But here we are, and you’re not taking shit from me because damnit I’m excited for a Calvin Harris album AND I’M NOT ASHAMED.

Funk has had somewhat of a mainstream renaissance lately with Bruno Mars and Childish Gambino, but I’m not here saying Harris is riding a wave. Head back deep in the Scottish producer’s catalog and you’ll find layers of disco and funk in his projects from a decade ago. Nevertheless, his first two singles from his next album — “Slide” with Frank Ocean and Migos and “Heatstroke” featuring Young Thug, Pharrell and Ariana Grande — have dominated whatever rotation I’ve put on over the last couple months.

Harris announced his new project, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, this week with a laundry list of high-profile features like ScHoolboy QKehlani, Katy Perry, Travis Scott, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj and tons of others across just 10 songs. Along with the announcement, he shared a preview of the next single from the album, “Rollin” with Future and Khalid, which is out now.

It’s slow-tempo, sizzling funk, as Khalid and Future each take turns telling their stories of love, success and driving down desert roads. It makes me want to hear DaM-FunK make a song with Future. It makes me want to make the drive through the Valley with this on repeat. But until those opportunities come, you can listen to “Rollin” below.
