It’s been as long as eight years since a good chunk of you first heard Ash Riser working with Kendrick Lamar on the Kendrick Lamar EP. Over those eight years, he’s worked with plenty from the TDE circle, Jay IDK and others, but he’s also struggled to get his solo career up and running. But that’s why his new song, “Lord Don’t Fail Me Now,” is apt.
It’s the first single off his debut album, Ghosts, which is set to arrive on July 7. He’ll finally have the opportunity to showcase his talents in an official debut album setting, one that’s nearly a decade in the works.
Though “Lord Don’t Fail Me Now,” produced by TDE in-house producer Tae Beast, captures a more specific moment of finding himself in a situation that requires begging for protection — “I’m in the back of the car, all the homies got burners, I’m screaming, Lord, don’t fail me now,” he sings on the chorus — the theme plays well over Ash’s career. It’s almost like his success is out of his hands now — his talent will do the talking, and Lord, don’t fail him now after the years of dedication and growth.
