Although Slum Village has seen more changes than a Botox addict, Young RJ has remained a solid figure in the group since their Sophomore album, Fantastic Vol. 2. And this summer, the Dilla protégé will release his long-awaited solo debut, Blaq RoyalT.

“Creating my first solo project gives me a different sense of freedom,” says RJ. “Although my music is based on the Slum Village philosophy of sound, people will now get insight into one of the men behind the music.”

After getting things started with “Huh?!” on 4/20, RJ is back with a smooth new offering called “Wait” with the legendary Pete Rock and fellow Detroit native, Boldy James.

Check out the heartfelt record below and be on the lookout for Young RJ’s Blaq RoyalT album.
