The Black Opera – 80z Babiez To The 2Gz II [The Experimix] (Album)

blame it on JES7 May 27, 2017

Last year, The Black Opera delivered their highly underrated fourth project, African America. The powerful album encouraged young Black men and women everywhere to find Knowledge of Self — summed up as a “story of a people that feel lost, a people that don’t feel welcome in their place of birth.”

After releasing a video for “Beautiful City,” TBO’s Jamall Bufford and Magestik Legend implemented a few months of radio silence, carefully plotting their next move.

With their chess pieces set, The Black Opera return with 80z Babiez To The 2Gz II [The Experimix], a follow-up to the 2013 project of the same name.

The artwork of the new project pays homage to the popular Pen & Pixel covers which graced the CD cases of releases from the No Limit and Cash Money camps.

“We wanted to follow up African America with something that wasn’t as heavy, so we worked on the second installment of our 80z Babiez 2 The 2Gz Experimix series,” revealed Magestik and Jamall in a press statement. “We feel right in the middle of this Old Heads vs New Wave battle. So in this new mix you can hear our influences come across, young and old, in a way of expressing it that we feel only we can do it.”

Yesterday, TBO embarked overseas on a short European tour which will take them through Strasbourg, France (happening right as I type this), followed by stops in Berlin, Germany (May 30th), Linz, Austria with Smif-N-Wessun (June 1st) and Warsaw, Poland (June 3rd). From June 4th through the 9th, Jamall will head back to Berlin “for the release of the Berlin/Detroit collaborative artist exchange project titled Betroit.”
