Nick Grant Performs Tiny Desk Concert For NPR

Music isn’t always meant to be played in an intimate setting, but NPR continues to stretch the boundaries of what an artist can do when given that tasks with their Tiny Desk Concert.

The next person-of-interest for the DopeHouse taking part in the series is buzzing rapper Nick Grant, who began the year releasing his Return of the Cool album.

For his performance, Grant opened up with “Return of the Cool” (with a little help from a backing band and a vocal track from B. Hess). He followed with “Drug Lord Couture” and “Luxury Vintage Rap.”

NPR writer Rodney Carmichael said of Grant: “He’s a sly reminder that, contrary to popular opinion, the South still has a mouthful to say — and it doesn’t always have to be yelled, gurgled or Auto-Tuned to death.”

Despite having the flu, he lasted through the the performance, which you can watch below, wonderfully.
