Tinashe Is Still Recording Music For ‘Joyride’

Tinashe’s often-delayed Joyride album seems like it’ll be at least a couple more months before it sees the light of day.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Tinashe said she plans “on doing a solid few more months recording” and hopes to release the album later this year. She clarified her album isn’t in label limbo, though. “It’s not like it’s sitting in a vault locked up, it’s always getting better and improving.”

Singles like “Flame” and “Superlove” were released over the course of 2016.

She also spoke out about sexism in the music industry during the interview: “There’s a lot of sexism in the music business,” she said. “A lot of sexism. As far as female producers or female engineers … when you’re in these studios, it’s all men. It is so rare that they’d not even expect me to have an opinion.

“It’s so much easier for male artists, I know it is.”

Tinashe did release Nightride — a steamy compliment to her upcoming album — last year, though, noting that she wanted something out between her 2014 album Aquarius and Joyride and that her label was “aware that my fanbase wants new music.”
