Jarren Benton – “Again” f. Aleon Craft & Cutmaster Swiff

No longer “Jealous of Drake,” Jarren Benton is ready to move on and release his new album, The Mink Coat Killa.

Set to drop next Friday (June 23), the album started out as a Wu-Tang tribute, but as time went on, naturally started to pay homage to the 90’s as a whole.

“The Mink Coat Killa is my self-inspired honorary Wu-Tang name,” Benton says. “The album started out as a tribute album to the Wu-tang Clan, but as I was making it and going through samples it became a tribute to the 90s period. I produced half the album going through the samples the WU used but instead of using them all out I flipped them and came up with a totally different 90s feel on some of the tracks.”

The Wu-Tang inspiration was obvious on the first single, “C.R.E.A.M. ’17” with Nick Grant. And for the second single, Benton draws from the almighty Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest for the 8track-laced “Again” with Aleon Craft.

Heavily influenced by Tribe’s “Lyrics to Go” (which had that prime Minnie Riperton “Inside My Love” sample), the track also features an appearance from Kast’s DJ, Custmaster Swiff.

“He’s one of those ATLiens that brings a very different sound from Atlanta the masses need to recognize,” Benton adds.” I included him and a few others on this project just because of that. Atlanta isn’t all trap. We are very diverse sonically.”
