Shateish – “Hurt Away” f. Rapsody (prod. Nottz)

blame it on JES7 June 17, 2017

DopeHouse, meet soul singer Shateish, who proudly calls the city of Portsmouth, Virginia home. Tucked away in the Hampton Roads metro area, which also consists of the seven other major cities which make up the 757 area code, Portsmouth has given rise to the likes of R&B singer Ruth Brown, Chad Hugo (who was born there), Missy Elliot and her protégé Nicole Wray.

You surely have heard her buttery vocals throughout the past nine years or so, as Shateish has lent her talents on the opening song “The Truth” off Blu and Nottz‘s Titans In the Flesh EP and on Scarface‘s Emeritus (“Still Here“, also produced by Nottz).

The obvious working chemistry between Shateish and the Norfolk, VA-born Nottz is palpable, so the two have decided to collaborate on The Re-Awakening EP, a studious tribute to 60s/70s soul singer Ruby Johnson, and the funky-soulful sounds of the Stax/Volt era.
