Shabazz Palaces – “When Cats Claw”

blame it on Patrick Glynn June 21, 2017

Shabazz Palaces are releasing two albums, Quazarz: Born on a Gangster Star and Quazarz vs. the Jealous Machines, on July 14. The duo have shared two singles from both albums, “Shine A Light” and “Since C.A.Y.A.” from the former, and “30 Clip Extension” and “Julian’s Dream” from the latter.

Revisiting their first-announced album, Shabazz Palaces share another single, “When Cats Claw.”

The song is driven by a set on uninterested drums and a reverberating, consistent bass line as Ish rambles between echoes about what’s cool (him) and what’s not (you). He raps, “Your value to the bay, inflated/You just making moves, huh? Checkmate/Every time I shot, I score/Every time you rock n*ggas, sounds bored,” driving home what he thinks about himself at the end of each verse repeating, “I’m cool.”
