Terrace Martin’s Jazz Supergroup The Pollyseeds Drop ‘Sounds Of Crenshaw Vol. 1’

blame it on Patrick Glynn July 13, 2017

Here’s the rotating lineup for The Pollyseeds: Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington, Rose Gold, Chachi (a.k.a. Problem), Brandon Owens, Marlon Williams, Trevor Lawrence Jr. and plenty more guests.

And, of course, there’s Terrace Martin, the leader of the band. Martin has perused the LA jazz scene over the last decade, working with some of your favorites along the way — Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, 9th Wonder, Ty Dolla $ign and YG, to name a few — across albums like 3 Chord Fold and Velvet Portraits.

He heads the effort to bring the jazz and funk energy of Crenshaw Blvd. to your speakers with The Pollyseeds’ new album, Sounds of Crenshaw Vol. 1. Across 13 songs, the group has artists like Problem and Rose Gold make their voices heard, but the project is largely driven by the music, as evident on songs like “Mama D/Leimert Park” and “Funny How Time Flies” — a cover of the Janet Jackson classic.

Stream Sounds of Crenshaw Vol. 1, and cop the album on iTunes. I’m almost positive this is the best new album you’ll hear today.
