Timbaland and Swizz Beatz are taking their upcoming beat battle to the big stage.
Since the challenge was accepted last week, the super producers have been going back and forth on Instagram previewing new beats they’ve been working on. They each uploaded three separate clips, all showing they still have plenty in the tank.
Timbo even dropping unheard JAY-Z vocals? Hmm…
For some reason (ok, people are just stupid), whenever a battle is mentioned, many decide to throw “beef” and actual hate into the mix. When, like Timbaland reassures in an IG post, it’s all about the spirit of competition and putting on a show for the culture.
#mood A lot of people misunderstand what a competitive battle is. It’s not about destruction. It’s about 2 competitors with mutual respect and love, battling to bring the best out of each other. To elevate the art to a place where it couldn’t have gone on it’s own. To its plateau. I love Swizz and respect him just as much. But best believe that we are both going to come hard at each other and bring out the best of ourselves… It’s all about the music… It’s all about art… It’s all about the culture… It’s bigger then us. If we’re not going to change and elevate, then what’s the point?? #imwiththesmoke @therealswizzz
With an official date being revealed soon, Swizz and Timbo continue to hype things up with a pair of IG clips featuring Nas and Kendrick Lamar sharing their thoughts.
While Nas seemed torn (“Y’all both my brothers. I just wanna watch it go down. The game needs it.”), Kung Fu Kenny seemed to lean towards Swizz as he broke down his days as a young rapper checking the credits of his favorite songs.
“When I first started rhyming… what I used to do was check the f*ckin’ credits,” Dot said. “I don’t know if the kids are doing it, but I’m gonna explain to you, Checking the credits is how I know I want to work with Swizz one day. I remember my favorite fuckin’ beats. Checking the credits and they say Swizz on it.”
Both producers have deep catalogs. But what’s really interesting, is the fact that they’ll also be making beats on the fly. This has the potential to be a super dope event, wherever and whenever it goes down.
UPDATE (7/27): The battle doesn’t even have a date yet, but Swizz Beatz is already dreaming up the next one.
