Mahershala Ali Talks Rapping, His Faith & More With Stretch & Bobbito On ‘What’s Good’

blame it on Patrick Glynn July 26, 2017

Mahershala Ali‘s ridiculously hot 2016, which saw him star in Moonlight (he won a bunch awards for his role as Juan), House of Cards, Luke Cage and Hidden Figures, has led to a great press run in the first half of 2017.

He’s also been teased as the main figure in a film attached to Jay-Z’s 4:44 album, and he’s also been attached to the third season of True Detective. And despite the wonderful actor he’s become, little do people know Ali first wanted to be a rapper. He was known as Prince Ali and made a song with Planet Asia and Keith Murray.

His rap career and love of hip-hop is just part of what he discussed on Stretch & Bobbito’s new What’s Good podcast. Now sharing their second episode (the first saw Dave Chappelle as a guest), the iconic radio hosts talked to Ali about his Muslim faith, getting into character when acting, playing basketball in college and more.
