Here’s a pair of names I’ve not seen at the DopeHouse in a while: Beatnick & K-Salaam.
The duo may not have been seen around these parts since 2014; however, their 2009 tribute mixtape to Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye — Never Can Say Goodbye — remains a fan favorite. Beatnick and K-Salaam now plan to release a new project, The Bluest Flame, on August 25th.
“We make all of our beats from scratch”, says K-Salaam. “We design our own sounds, our own drums, we come up with new chord progressions. We don’t need to sample, but people are already sampling us.”
The duo have released the lead offering from the project, “Movin’ It,” with Tech N9ne and ¡MAYDAY!‘s Wrekonize. THe track can be heard below.
