Florida rapper Reconcile emphatically stays “Woke” in the video for a song off his upcoming project, Streets Don’t Love You.
Lecrae features on the song’s intro, which lays the path for Reconcile’s verses about making sure people’s eyes stay open to the social injustices happening around you ever day.
“You have the power to invoke change in the narrative of our country,” Reconcile said in a press email. “For the power of a young African-American man, you have the power to change the stereotype.”
He continued, talking about how much religion means to him: “I can’t ignore or mute my experiences in America to appease anyone, I answer to God. Too often our faith is confined to the walls of the church and we ignore the convictions God has given us. There are great injustices and pain throughout America and God has given me a voice to speak life into that.”
