Dave East Talks ‘Paranoia,’ Losing Friends With Mass Appeal

Dave East released his new project Paranoia last week, and I’m pretty sure Shake hasn’t stopped listening to it since. The nine-track project (which features four skits, too) digs into Dave’s current “state of mind,” he said in a new interview with Mass Appeal.

“My lifestyle just changed dramatically over the last year,” he said between his daughter growing up and his money situation becoming a lot more comfortable. Still, though, death surrounds him, as it did while growing up in Harlem: “I’ve had two of my closest people to me get murdered in the last four years,” he said, “but it be so much more positive shit going on that overshadows it, but that thought (of paranoia) is still there.”

East also talks to Mass Appeal — in their Open Space segment — about putting on for New York City, working with Nas, Jeezy and others, recording Paranoia, maturing with his music and more.
