Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, rarely gives interviews. He’s also vowed that he will eventually retire from both the music and acting worlds altogether, following a series of events that would have him arrested in then deported from South Africa.

However, the mighty Mos has released and album, December 99th, with Ferrari Sheppard, and recently performed on stage with Talib Kweli as a guest on Dave Chappelle’s New York residency. Now back in New York, Bey gave his first interview in many moons to Hot 97’s Ebro In The Morning crew.

Alongside Set Free Richardson, Yasiin breaks down his perspective on the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, before explaining what exactly has happened in South Africa. He also delves into the politics of Colin Kaepernick’s issues, the current status of his music and acting careers, his appreciation of Dreamville’s J.I.D, and more.
