On October 6th, California funk doctor XL Middleton will release his Things Are Happening LP through MoFunk Records, serving as the follow-up to 2015’s Tap Water.
After dropping off “Enjoy the Ride” late last month, the Pasadena native taps Tucson, AZ’s Zackey Force Funk for “Paradise of Pavement,” a song which he describes as the “true to the essence of [L.A] without romanticizing it.”
“I think it’s natural to have a love-hate relationship with a place you’ve lived in all your life. It’s a backyard boogie, house party jam but it’s also dark and ominous. That’s why I felt like Zackey Force Funk was perfect for the track. He’s only been in LA for a few years – I know he loves it and I know he also knows it’s not all sunshine and movie stars,” XL relayed in a press statement.
