Ten years ago (July 17th, 2007, to be exact), an album which actually helped Shake and I meet, Blu & Exile‘s Below The Heavens, was released. Before the massive and public “battle” between Kanye West’s Graduation and 50 Cent’s Curtis, Los Angeles was bathed in a soulful sound that would actually be the catalyst for the inception of the DopeHouse itself.

A decade later Blu & Exile will take it back to the beginning, announcing a “prequel” project called In The Beginning: Before The Heavens. The album will actually be composed of tracks that were crafted during the Below The Heavens sessions, and will feature the likes of , Cashus King, Blame One, Exile’s Emanon partner Aloe Blacc, and others.

“We planted the seeds of creativity and grew about 40 plants,” Exile says of the upcoming project, which arrives October 20th. “We picked the ones that we thought were the best for an album, but that didn’t mean that the other flowers weren’t beautiful. I’m super happy to re-release [In The Beginning] to people and have it actually get some attention that it definitely deserves. It’s amazing.”

The first taste from the project is “Constellations,” which can be heard below. Press play and be sure to catch Blu & Exile and company on the road.
