Wiz Khalifa Celebrates XXL’s 20th Anniversary

Celebrating their twentieth anniversary, XXL Magazine commemorates the milestone with a special edition featuring “twenty artists at the top of their game” on twenty different covers.

Wiz Khalifa is one of the artists to grace the cover (he was also a member of the 2010 Freshman Class), and he sat down with XXL to speak on their legacy, his covers with them and more.

“Growing up for me, XXL was just really important to always figuring out what was dope. Of course, all the artists on there were good but it was just really informative as to why we should really be in there,” he says.

While Wiz did share the 2010 Freshman cover, he also had his own in 2014 with then-wife Amber Rose. Still, he fondly looks back at his first.

“Honestly, my Freshman cover [is] my favorite one. Just being on there, being the kid smiling. That was an important time for our generation, I think. Of course, ’cause it’s me but just having the opportunity for you guys to call me a Freshman. Then for me to really build and gain a reputation from that. A lot of people seen that cover and were able to decide, Oh, okay, are these people really next or are they not? So, to be a part of that was super fun.”
