Beats, Mines & Life: An Instrumental Journey with Nottz, Khrysis & More

blame it on Shake October 13, 2017

Over the years, Coalmine Records has been responsible for a massive amount of quality hip hop. Just one look at their extensive catalog and you’ll see releases from Pharoahe Monch, Blu, the late Sean Price, Apathy, Big K.R.I.T., Skyzoo, Royce 5’9″ and plenty others. Seriously, there’s a lot.

Coalmine isn’t just a home for emcees, though. There’s been plenty of producers who’ve made their mark with the diamond logo. And to celebrate the many phenomenal instrumentals that have landed on their projects, they’ve released their first instrumental compilation, Beats, Mines and Life: An Instrumental Journey.

The 50 minute Journey highlights both serious bangers and low-key headnodders alike. For the trunk-rattlers, they’ve got joints like M-Phazes‘ shimmering beat for Blu’s “Kiss The Sky,” in addition to his creeping “Midnight Madness” instrumental from Heltah Skeltah’s 2011 EP of the same name. Elsewhere, you’re bound to break your neck to Nottz‘ “Atlantis” (off his Titans in the Flesh EP with Blu), chill along to J57‘s dusty “The Art of Sole” (off Aaron Rose’s 2016 EP, Elixir), and feel the soul of Thelonious Martin‘s “They Don’t Know” (off his Molotov project with Saga).

On top of that, you’ll also be getting instrumentals from KhrysisAyatollah, DJ Concept, Small Professor, Max I Million, and DJ Devastate.
