Today marks the fifth anniversary of Kendrick Lamar‘s classic major label debut, good kid m.A.A.d city. And to celebrate, we’re looking back at a few of our favorite memories from around the album’s release.
A few months after the album dropped, Kendrick had a show in Las Vegas, so our feature writer Andreas Hale and I linked up with the TDE crew at the Cosmopolitan. The night was wild: ScHoolboy Q got kicked out for smoking, Dot and Jay Rock ended up bodying the set by themselves, and Rock blessed us with some jewels about his infamous verse on “Money Trees.”
Shot for the DECODED series for Jay-Z’s Life+Times, Jay Rock broke down the bars and offered insight into the struggle that inspired the feature.
Five years later, the verse is still incredible.
