SHIRT Signs to Jack White’s Third Man Records, Drops “Flight Home”

Way back in 2010, we posted a song by Queens rapper SHIRT called “Most Overlooked in the Biz.” Eight years later, the title still rings true—but times are changing.

With a countless variety of projects under his belt (2012’s The F*ck, 2014’s RAP, and 2015’s Nike Adidas Records, just to name a few), the gifted lyricist has finally found a home to assist in releasing his official debut album, Pure Beauty.

Today, SHIRT has become the first rapper to sign to Jack White’s Third Man Records. And to kick things off, he’s released a video for his new single, “Flight Home.”

Directed by SHIRT and Dave Svedosh, the video is a socially conscious ode to the urban culture of his hometown, with SHIRT performing on top of a truck branded with Nike and adidas logos as it cruises through the city. A delicious meal is had, then it’s off to the infamous Freedom Tunnel, highlighting the graffiti artwork and honoring the displaced New Yorkers who sought liberty and refuge.

“This was done without Nike or adidas permission or consent but with the utmost respect.” he says. “This is about culture and love, and being able to take flights home.”

Check out “Flight Home” below and be on the lookout for Pure Beauty, dropping digitally February 9th. A physical version, with alternate artwork by John Baldessari, will also be available on February 23rd.
