Lil Peep. A$AP Yams. Even Tom Petty. These artists have all, in part, lost their lives to prescription pills (Peep, to fentanyl overdose; Yams, mixed drug intoxication; Petty, accidental overdose of prescription pain medication). The sobering reality of one’s own mortality is starting to ripple through hip hop, with many artists vowing to get off and/or stay off the pills.
Wifisfuneral and Cris Dinero have followed suit, and the duo have released the joint EP Last Time Doing Drugs. A three-track project, only their fans, friends and family can hope that they stay true to their declaration to remain addiction-free.
