DJ Premier Remixes J. Cole’s “1985”

Without a doubt, DJ Premier will go down as one of best producers to grace the hip-hop world. As the genre’s sound continues to grow and expand, Preemo still finds ways to stay relevant—take PRhyme 2, for example.

With permission from Cole himself, Preemo places a new beat on closing track of his KOD album.

“I bought J. Cole’s album as soon as it dropped with no warning to the fans; which I too am a fan,” Premier says. “‘1985’ resonated with me immediately so I asked Cole if I could get the acapella and do an underground DJ version just for fun. He sent it and I just pieced some stab samples to keep it on some boom bap shit.”

The new beat adds some age and maturity to the track, thanks to Preemo’s boom bap laden beat and other signature production pieces.
