What To Expect This Week (8/19-8/25)

blame it on Wongo August 19, 2018

While expectations for last week were low in the beginning,  it turned out to be a pretty productive week by week’s end courtesy of Stefflon Don’s Secure, Reese LAFLARE’s self-titled project, Young Thug & YSL’s Slime Language, along with new singles from 6LACK, Tory Lanez & Bryson Tiller, 24hrs, Cousin Stizz & more.

With that being said, I’m pretty optimistic for this week, which probably means by week’s end we’ll be flooded with a boatload of new tunes.

Here’s what to expect for this week:

Bas, Milky Way (8/24)

Two years after his sophomore effort, Too High to Riot, dropped, Dreamville spitter Bas is prepping the release of his third album, Milky Way. His album will hopefully add onto the list great projects from the Dreamville squad (Cozz’s Effected, EARTHGANG’s Royalty and J. Cole’s KOD).

While the tracklist remains unknown, we can expect Bas’ last two singles to appear on the album. “Pinball II” with Correy C, and “Boca Raton” with A$AP Ferg, could land spots on the album. Dreamville captain, J. Cole, is also expected to land on the album as well.

Jeremih & Ty Dolla $ign, MihTy (8/24)

Word of a collaborative album from Jeremih Ty Dolla $ign has been around for quite some time now, but the list of announced joint projects is much longer than the list of released joint projects, so this is always taken with a grain of salt.

However, after dropping the deluxe version of Beach House 3 back in May, Ty reconfirmed the joint album. It’s existence was confirmed once again thanks to it’s lead single, “The Light,” and with that an album of possible baby-makers became a reality.

With Jeremih being in headlines for things unrelated to new music, he looks to change that with his new project. Just like Bas, the tracklist to MihTy is also unknown, but one thing we do know is its release date.

Bobby Brackins, To Kill For (8/24)

Last time we heard from Bobby Brackins was back in 2016 with his To Live For project which featured Zendaya, Jeremih, Ty Dolla $ign & more. Making his return two years later, Bobby looks to continue the trilogy with To Kill For.

Led by two singles, “Big Film” & “My Love,” Bobby’s new project stands at 10 songs and includes features from August GrantMarc E. BassyP-LoALLBLACKJoy and Olivia O’Brien.

2018 MTV Video Music Awards (8/20)

Moving to earlier in the week, MTV’s Video Music returns for its 35th annual show live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Among the nominees, Cardi B leads the pack with 12 nominations including Artist of the Year & Best Hip Hop. Following Cardi, The Carters (Beyoncé & Jay-Z) racked up 8 nominations and Drake & Childish Gambino are right behind them with 7.

In addition to the nominees, we can also expect performances from Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez & more.

Tune in tomorrow to catch the winners or come back here to see the full list as we update it throughout the show.
