Shake’s Songs of the Week v.17

blame it on Shake August 27, 2018

For the last 115 weeks (count em), I’ve been putting together a Weekly Dope playlist that compiles all the music that was released to help fans catch up. On average, each playlist consists of 30-40 songs. So, in an effort to put a little more of a personal touch on things, I’ll also be sharing a list of my personal favorites from the week.

For Volume 17 of my Songs of the Week playlist, Joell Ortiz kicks things off by trying to decide between the streets or the booth over Apollo Brown production. It’s the first song off their upcoming joint album, Mona Lisa, and it’s got me hype. From there, J. Cole joined Bas on a standout from his Milky Way album, Chance the Rapper and Joey Purp joined KAMI on a Smoke Ono-laced bop, Masego and SiR are on a cougar hunt, and Christian Rich got together with Little Dragon and Vic Mensa for a groove. I got some highlights from new albums by E-40 (Gift of Gab), Blood Orange (Negro Swan), Always Never (Always Never), Jack Freeman (Define Love), Leon Thomas (Genesis), Radiant Children (Tryin), April+Vista (You Are Here), and Marco McKinnis (Underground). There’s also a few loosies from T-Pain and Gucci Mane, Keys N Krates, Lou Phelps (over Kaytranada and BadBadNotGood production), Ekali and Yuna, Mozzy, and TYuS.
