While fans hope — like, really hope — for a visual treatment for “What’s Free,” Meek Mill revisits his chart-topping album Championships with a video for the Mobb Deep-ian track “Trauma.”
Meek travels back to his childhood in the Will Ngo-directed video, penning a letter to his deceased father. As he grows he mulls over his life’s path, from a battle rap-weary lyricist to an unjustly incarcerated inmate. “Watching a black woman take my freedom, almost made me hate my people” is still one of the hardest lines on the entire album, in this writer’s opinion.
