9th Wonder Shares More Beats on ‘Zion III’ Project

blame it on Shake December 21, 2018

Who needs beats?! Because 9th Wonder has them for days.

(Side note: it’s 2019, and nobody wants to, cares to, and will not hear those struggle bars over perfectly laid instrumentals. How is this still a thing?!)

So much so, that he’s had to come up with ways to get them all to the masses. Whether it’s combining multiple beats on songs like Kendrick Lamar’s “Duckworth” and MURS’ “Walk Like A Man” or producing entire projects with artists like Black Thought, Talib Kweli, and David Banner.

That’s not enough, though. So in 2016, 9th kicked off (what’s become) an annual series called ZION where he compiles beats he laced during the year and packages them with a boatload of unreleased material.

“I hope to release every beat I’ve ever made over the next few years,” 9th Wonder told Mass Appeal. “Some unfinished, some ideas, some of my favorites, etc. They can’t just sit around, so this ZION series will be used for that. I’m letting them all go.”

Now, after teaming with Black Thought on Streams of Thought Vol. 1 and releasing a second installment of his JAMLA is the Squad compilation, 9th is back with Zion III—arriving almost a year to the day after Zion II was released—which includes 37 instrumentals and handful of original records with up-and-coming emcees King Draft and Swank.
