It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Lateef the Truthspeaker, but the veteran Bay Area emcee is back in action with a new project called Roots & Tings dropping sometime this year.
“‘Roots & Tings’ came about as an organic evolution of an idea to do remixes for a mixtape,” Lateef told hhdx. “That led to more conversations and original ideas, which led to more songs. The name ‘Roots & Tings’ came from the idea that music should reflect the soul — or the ‘Root’ — of the music we were making, and all of the ways that we added on to those original ideas with new ideas and interpretations would be the ‘Tings.'”
To kick off the campaign, Lateef—along with producer Jah Yzer and reggae artist Winstrong—links with Gift of Gab and fellow Latyrx member Lyrics Born on the project’s lead single, “Class War.”
