J. Cole – “Middle Child”

blame it on Wongo January 23, 2019

Just days into the new year, the folks at Dreamville announced they would be recording the third installment of their Revenge of the Dreamers series over a ten day span. Going beyond the actual roster, anticipation for the project skyrocketed as we witnessed a number of big name artists show off their golden tickets to the recording sessions.

Now that the recordings are over, the only thing that’s left to do is put the project together. How long the process will take remains to be seen, but to hold us over we’ve received the first audio taste from the sessions, from the head honcho himself.

“Middle Child” sees J.Cole taking on a hard-hitting beat cooked up by T-Minus. Led by horns as if to welcome someone of the royal nature, the track seems to announce to the world that King Cole is here. Throughout the track, Cole doesn’t shy from dropping names–mentioning Drake, Kodak Black,  JAY-Z, and 21 Savage.

While the arrival of a new Cole track is exciting, the press release that came with it is sure to spark even more anticipation as it revealed plans to release not one, but three projects in the first half of the year.

“In addition to J. Cole’s forthcoming album, Dreamville is in the process of completing three highly anticipated projects, to be released in the first half of 2019: Revenge of the Dreamers III, a collaborative project featuring Dreamville artists in addition to some of the most exciting artists and producers in hip-hop today, Shea Butter Baby, from fast-rising R&B singer/songwriter Ari Lennox, and Mirrorland, from boundary-blurring Atlanta duo EarthGang.”
