Beyoncé Drops Star-Studded Project, ‘The Lion King: The Gift’

blame it on Meka July 19, 2019

Technically, this is more a solo album from Beyoncé than it is a soundtrack-slash-compilation project for the film slated to be No. 1 in its opening weekend, if we’re being honest.

Either way, King Bey has curated and executive produced the soundtrack for Disney’s second live-action remake of 2019, The Lion King.

“This soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it,” Beyoncé says. “I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”

Officially dubbed The Lion King: The Gift, the 14-track project is packed with an impressive array of guests: Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino (no, it’s not his and Bey’s “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” cover), Tierra Whack, Saint JHN, Pharrell, WizKid, Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter, 070 Shake, Jessie Reyez, and more.

Led by Beyoncé’s “Spirit,” The Gift can be heard below. Press play and be sure to add the album wherever you listen to music.
