Just over a year ago to the day, Mac Miller blessed NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series with a magical Swimming medley. And now, Ty Dolla $ign is keeping the late rapper’s memory alive with a special performance of his own.
With the full clip being released in its entirety in the near future, NPR has decided to share a clip of Ty Dolla and company (which included Thundercat and Justus West [guitar], both of which performed alongside Mac last year) performing a rendition of Mac and Ty’s The Divine Feminine collaboration, “Cinderella.”
“Once we wrapped the taping, something special happened: I reminded Ty that he sat at the desk almost a year to the day that his friend, Mac, delivered what would be one of his final performances,” NPR’s Bobby Carter says. “The band paused and huddled. They mulled over a few notes in a matter of seconds then gave me a signal that they were ready. The room was silenced and the cameras started rolling again.”
Check it out below and be on the lookout for the full concert.
