Meet Deca and Neon Brown, an emcee/producer duo making their DopeHouse debut with the release of their new album, The Donner Party.
Equal parts film noir and boom bap, the project finds Deca–who sounds like a mix of Aesop Rock and Murs–laying down intricate verses over the dusty sounds of his and Neon Brown’s production; with a mix of vocal samples.
“The title of the album makes me think of a cocktail party where the hosts run out of caviar and hors d’oeuvres and things take a dark turn,” Deca says. “Humanity is blindly forging ahead with no real regard for the consequences of our actions. I think there’s a deep hunger for meaning, connection, substance, and real sustenance in our culture and not many places to find it. When we can’t find it, we eat what we’re fed.”
Equipped with eight tracks, The Donner Party can be heard below. There’s also limited edition vinyls available on Bandcamp.
