Missy Elliott Returns with ‘Iconology’ Project

blame it on Shake August 23, 2019

It’s been 14 years since Missy Elliott released an album (2005’s The Cookbook), but the Virgina-bred multi-hyphenate is back with a “collection of new songs” for y’all to press play and get your dance on to.

“This year has been a tremendous year for me… I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me. So, I have a SURPRISE for you,” Missy said on IG. “Let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight… I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s take it back to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance!”

Releasing a few days before she’ll be honored with the MTV VMA’s Video Vanguard Award (which she 10,000% deserves), the collection arrives a few months after her historic entrance into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The good news: the project is finally here. The not-so-great: it’s an EP consisting of four songs (and one acapella). Either way, it’s a more than pleasant welcome for the living legend, and it can be heard below.

Now, Missy wouldn’t be Missy without a new video…
