So… this one right here holds a special place in my heart.
DJ Premier and Guru, better known as Gang Starr, are possibly the single most important hip hop group in my entire life. I wholly credit their music for convincing me to even take a shot at the music industry instead of the medical/legal/engineering field so many Nigerian parents force upon their household.
Long story short, if it wasn’t for Gang Starr this website – and, more importantly, my kinship with Shake – would probably not exist.
It also goes without saying, that if it weren’t for this website and kinship with Shake, I would’nt have the pleasure of personally being involved in this Gang Starr project (heads up: a lot of the music you consume today, the DopeHouse plays a part of outside of these e-walls, and UOENO it).
As we reported yesterday, sixteen years after their last album (2003’s The Ownerz) and nine years since the tragic passing of Guru, DJ Premier will release the final album from the seminal group later this Fall.
Using original production and previously vaulted vocals from Guru, the campaign is officially kicked off with J. Cole joining the legendary duo on the album’s lead single, “Family and Loyalty.”
