Gang Starr Returns After Over 15 Years With ‘One Of The Best Yet’

blame it on Meka November 1, 2019

If you told 2003 me that I’d finally see an album from one of my favorite hip hop groups of all time after over 15 years, I probably wouldn’t believe you. Then again, I’m still holding out for a new Clipse album (no, I have not and won’t listen to Jesus Is King).

Alas, back in September and to the delight of many, DJ Premier took to his social media accounts to tease a new album from Gang Starr — the first since 2003’s The Ownerz — is on the horizon. Following that, the first single from the group, “Family & Loyalty” with J. Cole, hit the e-waves.

So finally, after all this time, a new album from Preemo and (the late) Guru has arrived: One of the Best Yet. A 16-track affair that also comes equipped with the project’s second single “Bad Name,” the legendary duo amass an array of guests to assist them throughout including Talib Kweli, Ne-Yo, Nitty Scott, Q-Tip, Royce 5’9, Big Shug, Freddie Foxxx, and Group Home, among others.
