Throughout the years, J.Period has done his part in shedding light on some of our culture’s best representatives with the release of “Best Of” projects for Nas, Q-Tip, Michael Jackson, James Brown, and countless others. And now, the Brooklyn-based DJ is putting the spotlight on Lauryn Hill.

Released as a two-part compilation – “Fire” and “Water” – the lengthy tribute helps celebrate the versatility of Ms. Hill’s catalog and the enduring legacy of her impact on Hip-Hop, R&B and soul music.

“As a fan, the impact of hearing Hill’s verses back to back is undeniable—you can’t listen and not count her among the greatest MC’s to ever touch a mic,” J.Period says. “As a DJ, the blueprint created by this collection sparked countless collaborations for me that continue to this day: Q-Tip, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Black Thought, and The Roots.”

“I’m deeply grateful to Hill for the inspiration, both as a fan and a DJ, and I’m extremely excited to introduce this project to the streaming universe for the first time,” he continued. “Telling stories through music is the goal of these mixtapes, and I hope that, through this project, a new generation of fans will come to appreciate the power of Hill’s music and story, as I do.”

Available on streaming services, the projects can be heard below.
