Not every new single has to be a freshly-recorded song. Some times, it might be best to just dust off an older record you had laying around, add a verse or a guest feature, and then release the refreshed version to the masses.

Taking this approach, Marlon Craft‘s latest single, “Mom’s Whiskey,” was originally released during the Flavors freestyle series he was hosting before the release of his debut album, Funhouse Mirror.

“I wrote ‘Mom’s Whiskey’ mad late one night, completely broke, waiting for the album to drop, and I literally found a stashed bottle of my mom’s whiskey that she had hidden when I was looking for a pen,” Craft says. “I found that beat on YouTube and it all just spilled out.”

Revisiting the fan-favorite, Craft has enlisted Brooklyn’s Kota the Friend to join him on the introspective, Yusei-produced song. Check it out below.

UPDATE: A little over a month after the audio, a video has been released.

“We went with the Facetime video for ‘Mom’s Whiskey’ because honestly, we were just like man how else could we do it?” Marlon says. “I thought about it and realized I don’t think I’ve ever seen it done before. That’s what I think is moving about the video when you watch it – there’s this real feeling like, ‘yo these cats are literally doing the best they can right now.’ and that’s what we’re all just tryna do.”
