This is rather disheartening to hear.

The coronavirus pandemic has expectedly hit hip hop, with artists such as Westside Gunn and DJ Jazzy Jeff battling it and ultimately coming out on the other side. Unfortunately and sadly, the same cannot be said for Fred the Godson who has tragically lost his life to the disease earlier today.

Née Frederick Thomas, Fred revealed he had been stricken by the disease back on April 6th. Initial reports, including statements from his wife, had suggested he was on his way to making a full recovery. However, after a few weeks of battling, his publicist revealed that because of the virus, Fred–who had suffered from asthma and was at a higher risk–had been fighting through a fever that at one point reached 105 degrees and that he’d lost function in his kidney.

He was only 35.

A member of XXL’s 2011 Freshman list, which included the likes of  Mac Miller, Big K.R.I.T., YG, Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill. Fred the Godson was a master with the pen. Constantly releasing music, in just the last two years he released Payback, Training Day, God Level, and Gorilla Glue, a joint effort with Joell Ortiz and The Heatmakerz.
