Although many of the youth may only recognize him for his work with Thundercat and DaM FunK, Steve Arrington is the very definition of an OG. From his early days with funk group Slave to his 1985 solo debut Dancin’ in the Key of Life and various works after, you’ve heard his music, even if you aren’t familiar with the name. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Anderson .Paak… they’ve all sampled this man’s music.

Still going strong over four decades into his career, Mr. Arrington is back in action–via Stones Throw–with his new single, “The Joys Of Love” featuring a couple of DopeHouse favorites in Mndsgn and Devin Morrison.

“‘The Joys of Love’ is a ‘trust me song.” Steve explains. “A song of fun when it all goes right. A song of thanks for every day of life.”

“[Steve] truly set an example for how we want our attitudes to age throughout our careers,” Devin says, before Mndsgn added, “Steve’s ability to remain wide open and vulnerable to the creative spirit is remarkable. It’s dope to see someone who’s put in decades, still have the same child-like enthusiasm as when you discover something new.”
