Back in 2017, we told you Reuben Vincent had “way too much talent to ignore” when we first shed light on the Charlotte, NC emcee after he inked a deal with 9th Wonder and dropped his Myers Park project.

Three years later, the now 19-year-old artist is ready to impress once again with the release of his next project, Boy Meets World, on June 26th.

Ahead of the Friday release, Reuben Vincent has shared a video for the project’s latest single, “Close,” that finds him reflecting on life, covering everything from doubters to temptation to social media’s influence.

“I’m proud of ‘Close,’ both the song and video, and honored to have had the chance to work with my collaborators on this one,” Reuben says. “Eric G brought the perfect energy with his beat, amplifying the statement I wanted to make with this track – reflecting on my life and the temptations, distractions, and obstacles that have come about.”

Directed by Patrick Lincoln, the video can be seen below.

UPDATE: Ahead of Boy Meets World’s arrival tonight, Reuben came through with another single in “Whatchu Say.”

“The inspiration for ‘Whatchu Say’ comes from the 1976 song by Roy Ayers entitled ‘Hey Uh-Whatchu Say Come On,’” Reuben told Rap-Up. “When I was recording this song, I laid down the chanting-like phrase first in order to provide confirmation to myself to speak my truth. My hope for the listeners of this song is that they receive encouragement to be themselves, to allow themselves to truly feel their emotions, and most importantly — to always stand in your truth.”
