Here’s something that’s out of left field and totally unexpected: a new super-group featuring some of the most gifted musicians on the planet.
Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper, Kamasi Washington and 9th Wonder have formed like Voltron for a new crew, Dinner Party. The name comes from the connection and friendship all four members have had for years: Terrace and Kamasi have known each other since high school, meanwhile Terrace met Robert at band camp and 9th Wonder in 2009. They’ve now formed a hip hop/jazz quartet of sorts, and their debut project is out July 10.
They’ve unveiled the first track “Freeze Tag,” with Chicago-bred singer singer Phoelix (who Terrace met while touring with Herbie Hancock). Check it out below.
