When it comes to BARS, Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked are two of the best to ever do it. Not all rhymes have to be punchline heavy with a side of tough talk, though–these two put their life between the paper’s lines, literally.
In March, Joell and Crook–who make up 1/2 of the Slaughterhouse machine (that may or may not be working on something new together)–released an EP together called H.A.R.D. On top of the lyrical miracles, both emcees took time to dig deep and share personal portions of their respective lives.
Even though they grew up on opposite sides of the country, both Joell and Crook faced numerous hardships as they ventured through childhood and learned (on their own, or help from loved ones) how to be men.
One of the more personal records on the EP was “Lose My Mind.” And today, the duo sat down with Genius to break down the Heatmakerz-laced track as part of the site’s ongoing Verified series. Check it out below.
