Jay Electronica’s ‘Act II: The Patents of Nobility’ Album Finally Drops

blame it on Meka October 4, 2020

Well, this is one of the most unexpected surprises on 2020. Coincidentally, it’s by the same artist who surprised us earlier in the year, too.

Ten years after signing to Roc Nation, Jay Electronica released his debut album, A Written Testimony. A ten-song outing, the project featured his Roc Nation capo Jay-Z on eight of the tracks (which led to some people considering it a “sequel” to Watch The Throne). It also had people once again asking for what was supposed to be Jay’s true major label debut, Act II: The Patents of Nobility.

Well, some enterprising types decided to leak an (albeit unfinished) version of Act II over the weekend. Eventually, both Jay Electronica and producer Just Blaze (who was reported to play a heavy role in Act II) confirmed that the leak was real (albeit, again, unfinished). “Shiny Suit Theory” with Jay-Z, however, is the only track found on both Act II and A Written Testimony, as the project features the likes of The-Dream, Charlotte Gainsburg, and The Bullits among others. Several other tracks that were actually released are on it as well, most notably “Road to Perdition” and “Letter to Falon.”

So, now, Jay Electronica is currently working on releasing the project legitimately via Tidal (as evidenced by his above tweet). Because the project isn’t officially released, The DopeHouse will not be posting it unless or until it actually is. But we can say, it’s not that difficult to find it on the Internets should you decide to look for it.

Dr. Dre’s Detox, however? Yeah, we don’t know anything about that.

UPDATE: The project is officially out!
