Roses for the OG MF.

As the clock ran out on 2020, MF DOOM‘s wife relayed the somber news that the legendary rapper had transitioned to the afterlife a couple months earlier on October 31st. The news was a shock to family, friends and fans who have continued to share stories of their time with the masked villain and his music. Last week, Aesop Rock and Homeboy Sandman joined in on the celebration of DOOM’s life with a new LICE song, “Ask Anyone.”

The duo deliver a heartfelt tribute about their fallen friend over “Datura Stramonium” (an instrumental off Special Herbs 9 & 0), with Aes Rock reminiscing on the days he would recite the villain’s raps in the crowd at early shows and trading DOOM bars with friends at the park while Boy Sand offered a breakdown of DOOM’s many factions within music–from Viktor Vaughn and Metal Fingers to the Monsta Island Czars collective.

As a bonus, here a pair of songs that Aesop and DOOM worked on together back in the day. Up first, Prefuse 73‘s “Blacklist.” Followed by Moleman‘s “Put Your Quarter Up” that also featured Slug of Atmosphere.
