Long Beach’s Jaywop Is Another Promising Talent From The City

blame it on Meka April 14, 2021

This writer does not hide that I’m originally from Long Beach, CA. It’s in my blood (sitting side-by-side with my Nigerian heritage), it’s in my voice (I didn’t even know I had an “accent” until I relocated to New York), and I will always hold a special affinity for the music that comes from the city.

One such artist I recently came across was Jaywop, courtesy of his “Top 5 Freestyle” video. A one-shot take, Jay effortlessly flexes his lyrical dexterity throughout the short-but-sweet track.

This led me down the proverbial rabbit hole to find his recent release, Suede. A seven-track outing, the project features the likes of Innanet James and Deante’ Hitchcock, the latter who appears on the standout “Gold.”

Give Suede a spin below. You may enjoy it as much as I did.
