So, Nicole Bus Has Been Dropping Fire Every Week On Her Soundcloud

Now this just made me extremely happy.

One of my favorite R&B albums of the past few years was Nicole Bus‘s 2019 stateside debut album, Kairos. Quoting myself from our 2019 Favorite R&B Albums list:

The majority of the album was so entrenched in the 90s that there should have been a bundle package for it containing a Baby Phat jumpsuit (and not those new, boof Forever 21 versions) and tickets to a Shemar Moore-hosted episode of Soul Train.

However, she’s remained extremely low-key ever since, to the point where I would always wonder what she’s been up to. Well, randomly, I decided to just search her out online and what do I see? Nicole has been quietly releasing new music every Friday on her SoundCloud page!

Like Kairos, some of the drops keeps that vintage “hip hop soul” sound that Mary J Blige and so many other artists perfected in the 90s. “If I Only Knew” samples Nas’ “One Love,” while “Young” reimagines Slick Rick’s Hey Young World” (while using the drums from Slum Village’s “Fall In Love”), and tracks like “Story Of My Life” and “Bow Ties & Boques” have that boom-bap sound that I love.

Peep every drop from her so far, below.
