Joey Badass Tributes Capital STEEZ On “Survivors Guilt” Single

Today (July 7) would have been the 29th birthday of Jamal Dewar, better known as Pro Era member Capital STEEZ. While his close friend Joey Bada$$ has been able to move forward and carve out a blossoming career in both music and Hollywood, the loss still affects him to this day.

Joey’s latest single, “Survivors Guilt,” is reflective of that. Produced by Rahki (who uses a sample of Dave Hollister’s 2000 single “One Woman Man“), the track has Joey opening up on the close relationship he had with his late friend, as well as the internal struggles he continues to battle within himself (he somewhat blames himself for his passing). “This song is by far the most heartfelt song I’ve ever made and it felt incredibly therapeutic finally being able to put my thoughts and sentiments into words,” Joey says.

Coincidentally, “Survivors Guilt” — which is the latest offering from Joey’s forthcoming album, 2000, out July 22 — serves as a sequel to Joey and STEEZ’ 2012 track “Survival Tactics,” from Joey’s 1999 album.
