First off, long live DJ Shay!
Back in August of last year, the Buffalo-based DJ/producer sadly passed away at the age of 48. Born Demetrius Chawton Robinson, Shay was a heavy supporter of the Griselda and Black Soprano Family movements. On top of producing for the crew, anytime you saw Conway the Machine, Westside Gunn, and Benny the Butcher, there wasn’t a doubt Shay was right beside them.
Putting Buffalo on the map was a big part of his doing and to honor his legacy, Benny and B$F have decided to release a new project called Long Live DJ Shay. At 13 tracks, it’s feature appearances from Conway, Gunn, Stove God Cooks, Boldy James, Armani Caesar, Cory Gunz, Krayzie Bone, and OT the Real, over production by Premo, our guy Jansport J, and of course DJ Shay, himself.
Kicking things off, Benny, Ricky Hyde and Heem have linked up with the legendary DJ Premier on a song called “Times Is Rough.” Check it out below.
